Exhibits intense ruby red colors that fade to orange toward the rim. Black cherry, chocolate and cedar dominate the nose. The wine is bold and fragrant with several layers of rich fruit and a touch of licorice on the palate.
Wine Spectator Medium- to full-bodied, with lovely licorice, berry and plum character, full, chewy tannins and a licorice and berry aftertaste. Nicely done. Almost ready. Best from 2004 through 2009. 400 cases made. Score: 90. —James Suckling, November 15, 2003.
Wine Enthusiast Starts off with leather and dried fruit aromas, but they are unusually delicate and floral as well. The feel of the wine is lacy, yet firm, a spider’s web that lures you in to explore the depths of its complexity. Overall, it’s a little light, but wonderfully complex and fragrant. Score: 90. April 02, 2004.

Good bright, deep red. Expressive aromas of cherry, camphor, tar and flowers. Round, broad and nicely fine-grained, with bright redcurrant and raspberry fruit lifted by a floral element. Offers moderate complexity and finishes with a fine dusting of tannins.

#14 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2008
"What a beautiful nose, with flowers, licorice, ripe fruit and fresh leather. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a wonderful ripeness of fruit, yet this is balanced and structured. Very smooth. The best wine I have ever had from this producer. Best after 2012. 1,700 cases made."
James Suckling, Wine Spectator

"Saturated ruby-red. Aromas of blackberry, cassis, licorice and bitter chocolate. Rich, dense and extremely young; a superconcentrated, very modern-style wine that tastes almost like a barrel sample. Deep but youthfully musclebound, this will require at least six or seven years of additional bottle aging to develop its personality."
