Varietal Report: Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is one of the oldest grape varieties to be cultivated for the purpose of making wine. Its claim to fame came from the Burgundy region in France, but the Burgundy Pinot is now getting a run for its money due to the excellence of California and Oregon producers, and of course the movie Sideways. Pinot Noir exhibits fruity characteristics of cherries, plums, raspberries, and strawberries. Usually Pinot Noir is medium bodied, making it a great red to have anyday.

Argyle Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley 2003 $17
This Pinot Noir is great to have as the weather starts getting warmer. This is a medium bodied wine with a nice soft berry fruit taste. These flavors continue to live as you drink the wine into a medium to long finish. Try this Pinot with a nice leg of lamb or osso buco.
