BLT Prime - So Good that I Gained 5 Pounds

I just had a decadent meal with my good friend, Melissa. We began at the bar with the house Riesling. Unfortunately, I never heard the name or saw the menu. The bar service was certainly rushed, but the bartenders were polite.

After being seated by a formal and professional host, our server took amazing care of the rest of the night - and what a night it was! Before we ordered, we were brought a teaser: duck pâté with home-baked bread. I tend to shy away from pâté, but this was a wonderful contrast of tastes and textures. After ordering, but before receiving our appetizer, we enjoyed another teaser: leek butter rolls with garlic and sea salt. The rolls were warm and moist.

While ordering, we decided to share every course - and we proceeded with meticulous planning from there. Melissa wanted the BLT Kobe Beef Skirt Stake with Foie Gras Sandwich, but she was torn, also excited by the Braised Short Ribs. While, I had been originally interested in the Seared Tuna, she enticed me to ordered red meat. So, I ordered the BLT and she ordred the short ribs. We agreed to split one vegetable and one potato dish. Asparagus was the appetizer of choice, and with the server’s suggestion, we ordered blue cheese tater-tots. Still, I had been excited with the prospect of seafood. My desire was met by the compromise appetizer - tuna tartar with avocado.

The tuna tartar was amazing. In particular, the citrus soy sauce was not too salty nor too sour. It was light and complimented the tuna exceptionally well. As for entrees, Melissa definitely won! The braised short ribs melted in my mouth. My BLT kobe beef skirt steak sandwich with foie gras was good. The bread was much too hard to easily enjoy. But, the steak was soft and tasty, and the foie gras was a nice compliment. As for the sides - the tater tots, while great, were rich but wonderful. We could only finish half. We did finish all the asparagus, which was perfectly light and not too buttered or salty.

For dinner, I ordered the Calera 2001 Pinot Noir. It was reasonably priced ($48) on an otherwise unaffordable wine list. And, while it didn’t pair with our tuna tartar appetizer, it was exceptional with our entrees.

Finally, desert!! While waiting for Melissa, I witnessed a desert that stuck in my head the rest of the night. It was the Coffee Toffee Ice Cream Sundae. I almost never order desert, however, it was too appealing to ignore. I cannot believe, an hour later, that we ordered and completed the desert. To be fair, I ordered and completed the desert, and I appreciate Melissa’s moral support and 5 bite contribution. It was spectacular - and now that I know that toffee is simply a certain sugar and butter combination, I better understand why. All I can say is WOW. I may have to starve myself for a week. Dinner was rich and filling. I would suggest trying BLT Prime, especially when on an expense account.

Cheers!
