Tasting Flight 4/24/06
It is the start of another week. I hope it is a great one!
Bordeaux Redeux
Parker’s comments on the 2005 Bordeaux are now published. What does the Sage of Maryland think? Like many, he recognizes the strong potential of the vintage. And yet, Parker attempts to calm the fervor until the wine hits the markets and palates of the wine community. Of course, when Parker repeats phrases such as “Best Ever,” he undermines those attempts. (Decanter.com)
Wine Speed
Importation officers in Australia found a substantial amount of ephedrine in 24o wine bottles, as part of a major Speed bust. I wonder what bottle was used - Yellow Tail? (ABC News Online)
Speaking of Yellow Tail
I may give the Australian winery a hard time, but I found the New York Times corporate profile on the company an interesting tale (pun intended). When you consider that the wine was introduced in 2000, and it is already one of the most recognizable Australian wine brands in the U.S., Yellow Tail must be on to something! I might not go buy a bottle this afternoon, but maybe I’ll stop mocking it so relentlessly…just maybe.
