Tasting Flight 4/25/06

Krazy Kiwis
I am quite a fan of the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. It looks like this vintage will offer more bottles. That is because the country blew away previous records for grapes grown. In fact, growers are worried about a grape glut. (Stuff, NZ)

Georgia vs Russia Round 5
Georgia is claiming that independent French analysis proves that Georgia wine is fine. Keep in mind, this is not the French saying it (yet). Georgia is taking the statement to Russia, in hopes of pressuring the former motherland to accept Georgia wine imports. There is pending analysis from Switzerland and Italy that Georgia also hopes will validate the integrity of their wine. (ITAR - TASS)

Double Triple
Quilceda Creek of Washington has just enjoyed two tremendous accolades from the Sage of Maryland. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate gave both the 2002 and the 2003 vintages of the Quilceda Creek a perfect 100. These 100 point scores are the first awarded to a Washington winery. I hope to get a chance to try the Quilceda Creek, but I have a feeling that now that the wines have received the rating, they might be harder to find. (Yahoo Finance)
