Description: The cheese with a big aroma and a ripe, rich earth laden pedigree.
Munster is a creamery, washed-rind cheese made from cow's milk. It has a round shape with sticky, orange, washed skin. The texture is semisoft and the flavor ranges from mild when young to quite assertive when aged. French Munster is one of the few cheeses which ripen from the inside out. The American version of Munster, or Muenster in America, have an orange rind, a lighter yellow interior and a decidedly bland flavor that in no way resembles the more robust European originals.
