White-wine grape used to produce Hermitage in the Rhone region of France. Traditionally full-bodied, heavy, and somewhat dull when young, Marsanne develops well with age. Recent Marsanne are lighter and fruitier, with a perfumy fragrance. They are rich and nutty, with spice and pear hints.
